Bizarre in looks, sweet in flavour, organic custard apples (or chirimoya) are a seasonal treat worth sampling. Juicy and aromatic, with mellow, creamily sweet flesh that lives up to their name. Give them a squeeze to check they’re ripe – if they give a little, it’s time to cut in half, discard the seeds and tuck in to the flesh with a spoon.
